MXRI F-15 Scanner

The most recent manipulator completed by Marietta X-Ray is the 10 Axes F-15 Scanning system at Robins Air Force Base. The F-15 flight surfaces were previously x-rayed in a convention fashion which involved personnel climbing ladders to tape film to the surface of the aircraft, climb down, take the shot, and climb back up to retrieve the film. This process proved to be time consuming and arduous on the operators. The Air force then decided to use a real-time system to complete the scanning of the F-15.
MXRI attached a real-time panel to the end of the manipulators C-Arm and an X-Ray source on the other end. The C-Arm is then manipulated to a particular flight surface then the x-ray source is powered, and the manipulator systematically scans the surface for FOD. The manipulator was designed to complete vertical surface scans, horizontal surface scans, and other off-aircraft part scans. The manipulator system even allows the operator to manually align the manipulator to the honeycomb alignment during a computerized scan.
